My thoughts on hypocrisy
There's been some bru-ha-ha of late on the bareback blogs about certain performers, namely Chris Gabriel/Marc Dylan, who go from bareback to condom performances. We all know it happened years ago with both Brent Everett and Brent Corrigan. Certain people including Max Sohl have been, in my opinion picking on Chris Gabriel for his decision to not do bareback videos anymore after performing for Treasure Island Media and SX Video. To be honest I don't see what the fuss is about. IblastInside went so far as to say "particular actor’s hypocritical actions". Max Sohl asks us to trust either "what they say" or "what they do". Where is the hypocrisy? Seriously - hypocrisy is saying one thing, and doing another, but in this case, the performer Chris Gabriel/Marc Dylan did one thing, said he regretted it and is now saying he wont do it again. And????
People are suggesting that this is hypocrisy which means they don't know the definition of the term, and they are suggesting that he probably barebacks in his real life. Again I ask, And??? If Chris had said "it's wrong for people to bareback" then I would understand the critisism. But he didn't. He spoke here in a very personal manner, about what he felt was right for him. Marketing or PR or simple sincerity, I don't care. I think the bareback community are just sucking sour grapes. Not everyone barebacks. Some people try it, like it, and decide not to do it again. Some people try it, like it, and only ever do it again. Can't we allow people to make their minds up about such very personal and important things and respect their decisions? Nowhere was Chris being hypocritical.
In a similar situation, I know of a UK based pornstar who never does bb porn, and has said he would never do it in public on his website. I know for a fact that he barebacks in his personal life. A friend of mine said to me that the guy was a hypocrite. But surely, there is a difference between what you do in your private life and what you are willing to do on camera for the whole world to see? There are things I probably do in my own life that I would not choose to try and sell as a lifestyle to others. I have an open relationship with my boyfriend, but I wouldn't try to convince others to do the same, because it is completely up to each individual to decide what is right for them and their relationships. Does that make my a hypocrite? If said UK pornstar had claimed "barebacking is wrong full stop" then yes he would be a hypocrite, but this is not what he has done. He has just made a personal choice not to do it himself ON CAMERA and stated as such.
I actually have some respect for such performers - because they realise, as I do, that porn is not mere entertainment, but upholds ideologies, like any media, like any language. People learn from it, get ideas from it, build identifications with the performers etc. So chosing not to have bareback sex (even after you have already done so) on camera is NOT a bad, immoral or hypocritical thing to do. It is a considered decision which recognises the implications for the gay community. I may not make such decisions, you may not, but good for them!! Some people are able to think outside of their scrotum for a second and look at a bigger picture.
It seems that when people choose to not protect themselves, the barebacking community jumps for joy as if somehow the pornstars are making the right, only truthful decision. But when they decide that actually, despite what they do in their personal life, they want to play it safe on camera - which is a completely different thing (they are PERFORMING for others after all), we jump down their throats. Hell, maybe, just maybe they realise the condom route gives them more options and a longer shelf life. Again, so what?? This is capitalism after all, and we all have to put food on our tables.
I love bareback as much as the next slut, and will continue to watch it and share the good stuff I find - perhaps even shoot more of it. But I wont bad mouth people for making decisions in their own lives which have very real implications for them, simply because it may mean less wank material for me. So please, can we all just shut the fuck up? It's not as if there isn't enough bareback performers out there as it is!!! :)

Berlin, you crazy bastards!! :D
Ok it's official. I am in love with Berlin.
Last weekend a buddy and I went to Berlin for 4 days of non-stop sightseeing and sex! And when I say non-stop, I mean non-stop. I probably overdid it because now I feel like shit and my poor body is taking its sweet time to recover!! All I am left thinking is, I wish London partied as hard, well and as sleazy as Berlin does!
We started our weekend on Thursday visiting a few of the bars, including the famous Tom's Bar in the Nollendorfplatz area. It was a relatively relaxed evening, trying to get our heads around the etiquette of the bars. Things don't really kick off till late it seems. In the darkrooms, people were just mingling around, laughing, talking and bumping their heads and walking into walls! lol.
We spent Friday night the east of the city, at Lab.oratory and then finished the night (and early morning)back at Nollendorfplatz in a little Bar called Bull. Firstly, let me say that Lab.oratory is the best club I have been to. EVER!! It reminded me of the Hoist in London, but set in a much larger, industrial building (in the middle of nowhere). The place was like a maze, with so many rooms, cages, corners, cubby holes etc. People wore what they want - so the guys were dressed in everything from streetwear, topless, to full fetish. I liked that because it wasn't strict and there was a feeling of freedom in what you did and how you looked. It was 2 for 1 drinks night too and so the place was heaving. I got totally drunk and it only cost me something like 10 euros! Me and my buddy split up and had our own fun, before meeting at around 5am to head back to Bull where apparently the party continues!! Luckily, our apartements are a 5 min walk from Bull so we knew we could stumble home easily enough. Bull is an odd little place. A normal small bar with a darkroom out back. One thing any sex addict knows is that it is important to have decent washroom facilities at these kind of places because, well, things can, and do get mucky :-\ The toilets at Bull had no tissue paper in them and they had only one sink. Considering how many people were crammed into that darkroom, it was really stupid! But nevertheless, the sex was amazing.
We finished off our weekend (we did lots of sightseeing, but you guys aren't reading this for my thoughts on the Holocaust memorial are you??) by going to a party called Coffe and Cream at New Action, again in the Nollendorfplatz area. Although I prefered Lab.oratory as a venue, the party here was amazing, with the hottest guys I have ever seen in one room - all fucking bareback. Yep, this is when I fell in love with Berlin! haha. Anyway, if I had the stamina I think I could live in the sleaziest city in the world, but to be honest, one weekend was enough! Nobody it seemed used condoms. Never! But perhaps, like London, the guys I saw at these clubs were just a regular few, 2-3% of the gay population of the city. Because, if this was representative, I wonder what the city's health statistics are like? I dread to think!! haha.
